"What is it?" Words

Urchins, Honey, & Challenge

“ It kinda looks like a 7th grade boy growing out a buzz cut!”

“Crazy stuff in the Intracoastal!”

It turns out that our find in the Jupiter Island Intracoastal was a “Black Longspine Urchin”. It’s venomous, so I’m glad we didn’t step on it! We also found this cool, camo’d pufferfish.

“Chillin’”

Maybe it’s the 86 degree, August water temps. The heat and sun certainly affect us all. Animals adapt. Even polar bears have black skin under all that white fur to protect from the sun’s UV rays!

“Surprise 😃 “

Speaking of the UV index, it’s been in the purple across South Florida over the last several days.

With the humidity, it’s also felt as sticky as purple honey!

“What a mystery!”

You know what’s sticky purple? Not being able to swim—especially if you’re a Baltimore Raven. I mean, how are you gonna stay cool after training camp? Enter Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey. He posted a video on social media requesting Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps (from Baltimore), to teach the players how to swim. Phelps agreed! It’s much needed. Humphrey claims one in three Ravens can’t swim.

“Olympics meets NFL”

Trying something challenging, yet difficult, can actually stimulate happiness. That’s according to a recent psychological study. It found evidence that challenge and curiosity through experience, keep you sharp!

“Mystery beckons.”

Sandra Shaw

It’s like an invitation to faith. The scriptures describe how God provided the Israelites with a white, flaky substance to eat in the desert. When they saw it on the ground, they asked, “What is it?” “Man-hu” in Hebrew. That translates to “manna”.

I’m convinced that asking, “What is it?”, is a gateway to discovery and adventure. It’s God’s invitation for more. The scriptures quote King David metaphorically extolling his rescue from the “ditch, and deep mud”. Psalms 40:4 reads, “More and more people are seeing this: they enter the mystery abandoning themselves to God.” There is so much rarity, so much miracle around—with God. Life awaits! Let’s discover and open ourselves to the wonder this week!
