Unpredictable Words

Vegetables, Puppies, & MI-5

My daughter can’t figure out exponential fractions, but she’s certainly mastered the art of comedic timing. Cue the unexpected.

(A convo with friend at church), “Does your mom cook for you?”

“Sometimes. She can veer off course, with, like, extinct vegetables.” 🤣

(Me rocking the army green dress)

“Mom, you look like the mucinex mascot. Go back into your nostrils.”

(Me trying to explain algebra)

“Mom, I don’t want to hear how you think an enchilada looks like a cupcake.”

“Sweet Self-Deprecation”

Jackson Lamb has a sweet tooth, but it’s deliberately gross.

“Crafty Curmudgeon”

He’s the head of MI-5’s “Slough House” in the hit spy show “Slow Horses”. Season 5 premieres today. The “slow horses” are MI-5 rejects. Lamb, (Gary Oldham), is their deliberately crass and offensive leader. You never know what you’re gonna get. Take it from the horse’s mouth:

“Bringing you up to speed is like trying to explain Norway to a dog.” Jackson Lamb

Sometimes you just can’t force things. Breed doesn’t determine outcome. Life is surprise. By the way, you can adopt puppies like these from the TSA. They couldn’t cut it as police dogs, but I’m guessing all is far from lost!

Violating preconceived notions can be an artful act of defiance. Check it out.

“Art can not only survive change, it can lead it.”

Robert Redford

Rest in peace Robert Redford. I loved all of his movies, but especially “The Natural”. The lightning of poignancy, and athletic artistry hit me. Roy Hobbs reflects, “My life didn’t turn out as I expected.”

“Courage improvises.”

Sandra Shaw

Back to the unpredictable Jackson Lamb…

A higher-up tried to bribe him into giving up his spy team. He gave a shock response.

“NO. I think they’re a bunch of absolute losers. But they’re my losers.”

I love that. I feel it intensely, especially when it comes to God. We, humanity, have failed so many times. But, the scriptures say we are His. In Genesis, the Creator says we are “very good”.

“So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing Himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us?” (Romans 8:31-33)

It’s an unpredictable narrative, but one with a winning laugh of joy. Have the best week! 😄
