CURATED CURIOSITIES

Jordan and her friend grinned like cheshire cats as they sauntered over to me. I’d skipped breakfast and spied the Dunkin Donuts bag immediately.

“You got me a donut!”

“Open it.” I should have registered the grins reaching new levels of mischievousness. I didn’t. I opened the bag only to find a brightly colored lizard…creeping around with anxiety!?

“We caught him!” The girls squealed with delight. This is what I call a “SWICY SURPRISE.” There’s a sweet potential along with an edgy spice. Both make the moment! (the lizard is now freely roaming)

“Do you want sprinkles with that?”

“Swicy” is forecast to be summer’s hottest food obsession. It’s the combination of spice and sweet. For instance, “Coca Cola Spiced” is the brand’s first new permanent flavor in years.

But swice isn’t a one dimensional adjective. For instance, “Cricket” (not the insect, the game) is swicing things up for South Florida. Fort Lauderdale is one of three U.S. cities hosting the first ever Cricket World Cup. Cricket is the world’s second most popular sport with a fan base of some 2.5 billion people. It’s similar to baseball but the bats are called wickets and the rules are a bit more complicated. Broward Stadium will show off Sri Lanka versus Nepal next Tuesday. USA plays Ireland on Friday, June 14th. The games here last through the 16th.

“The Giant Cricket Ball”

“It landed directly in the middle of the trail. It was just wild. It was crazy looking.”

That’s how Justin Clontz describes a huge swath of space debris that landed in the North Carolina mountains. Clontz works as the groundskeeper of the “Glamping Collective”, a 160 acre luxury camping property near the Cherokee range. He never expected he’d discover something interstellar on his daily rounds. Astrophysicists says it’s likely part of the SpaceX Dragon Capsule. Swice! https://www.space.com/space-debris-spacex-crew-7-reentry-north-carolina

The pickup truck didn’t exactly fall into the canal, but it certainly drove into it! Two Ft. Lauderdale teens eating across the street wasted no time as it sank. They raced over to the murky waters, dove in, and rescued the unconscious driver! The two said they had to scream to wake the man, who was very heavy in the depths. The boys took off his seatbelt and managed to shove him onto the hood. Eventually they pulled him to the grass.

THE SWICE OF COURAGE CHARS TASTE INTO STRUGGLES.”

Sandra Shaw

I’ve come to realize that words and intention are the sweetness in life. The spice is the fight! It’s the passion that edges away from self and toward sacrifice.

I believe that Jesus saved all humanity when He died and rose three days later. I also believe he lives within those who accept His awesome gift of eternal life.

So when I’m talking to myself, am I talking with sweetness to the the Jesus that lives within? Or am talking in shame and negativity as if I’m alone? I think sweetness is essential.

But on the other hand, so is action. The spice is the zest of freedom. It’s the drive to battle forward despite chaos. It’s essence that breaks away from self toward others. The combination is the Golden Rule.

Let’s be swicy this summer! Thanks for reading 💜
