Shine Words
Beignets, Process, & Jelly Roll
“Mom, you have powdered sugar all over the back of your legs.”
Oops! Note to self, never wear black and try to eat beignets. When you try to clean up, the sugar gets everywhere. The waiter told me it was not uncommon. 😆

“Beignets”
These fried-dough delights fire up pretty quickly. But, it’s a slow food kind of vibe on Netflix’s “Chef’s Table: Legends”. The series, which debuted Monday, goes into a deep, deliberate dive featuring some epic chefs. One of my favorites is Jose Andres, who started the Central World Kitchen. It provides meals to the frontlines in response to natural disasters and humanitarian crises. Andres compares life to a star passing through the horizon. Moments are critical. So is service.

“More than Mere Food”
Some stars burn for tens of billions of years. How do we shine and flow with patience and endurance in the time and space of now? Especially with circumstances we can’t control? Check out this book by DawnChere Wilkerson that just released!

“Available at Vous & on Amazon”
Jelly Roll, (the musician, not the pastry), says he took the “scenic route” on the journey. The passionate songwriter spent most of his time between ages 14 and 25 in prison for drug offenses and armed robbery. Ironically, he developed his love of orchestrating lyrics while behind bars.
Once his daughter was born, Jelly Roll surrendered to Jesus completely, and started selling mixtapes out of his car. At age 40, he’s won best new Country Music artist, a Grammy, and multiple CMT awards. He calls his life a “Hard Fought Hallelujah”. LISTEN!
“Surrender joyfully fights.”
Hallelujah is a Hebrew word stemming from the root verb “halal”, to shine or praise. It’s a declaration designed to build an exuberance in the soul. The lyrics admit, “Yeah I don’t always feel it…Yeah, but that’s when I need it the most.”
“Souls Hunger for More”
I’m convinced there is a sustenance in surrender. The Psalmist exclaims, “For HE has CONQUERED us with His great love, and His kindness has melted our hearts.” (117:2 TPT)
When we submit to that with praise, we’re infused as stars that burn for more. Serving others wars for unity. Gratitude fights for creative elation. Love weaponizes sacrifice as beauty. Another translation reads “His love has taken over our lives; God’s faithful ways are eternal. Hallelujah!” (MSG)
Have a “hard-fought, heartfelt, been to hell and back Hallelujah”, kind of week. Wonder awaits. 😇
