CURATED CURIOSITIES

Do you like to make stuff your own? I kinda take this to extremes, especially with T-shirts. I cut them all up. I don’t love sleeves, sometimes the neck is too tight, and sometimes I just want a crop instead. So it’s like Sandra Scissor-hands. Do many look jagged? Sure. Are they original? You bet!

There’s something bespoke about shape and model. Take, for instance, the new Ravenchord grand piano. The instrument looks like an outstretched bird wing. Plus, all of the piano’s internal workings are exposed and the player faces the audience. This marks the first reimagining of the grand piano in 300 years. The Ravenchord won the iF Design Award for 2024.

Form always intrigued David Smith. He’s the retired printing technician from Northern England who discovered the “hat”. It’s the world’s most recently minted shape. The “hat”, because it resembles a fedora, is 13 sided. It can completely cover a surface without ever creating a repeated pattern. The structure is something you get by cutting up hexagons (maybe my T-shirt hacking skills will lead to something 😀)!

“Hat”, also know as an einstein (meaning ‘one stone’)

GEOMETRY OF MIND CONSIDERS ANGLES.”

Recent research indicates one of the best times to spark creative angles is the twilight period between wakefulness and sleep. Scientists say that, if you can interrupt yourself in this sleep onset, you may discover weird associations, otherwise lost to dreaming. Thomas Edison napped while holding a heavy object so it would drop right before he fell asleep.

The daydream vibe might not make logical sense in a factory setting. But, when it comes to the artistry of the soul, skylight carries value. That’s why Brunello Cucinelli has windows in his luxury cashmere factory in Solomeo, Italy. The iconic designer, with a love of philosophy, aims to create what is “humane, simple, and friendly.” Cucinelli explains a process behind his fashion. “This was made by people who earned the right amount, in a place where they see the sky.”

How are you shaping your creative process? Are you making it your own? Are you considering new angles of approach? What unique designs awake your imagination? Don’t forget to look out the window, take a quick siesta, and wake on a wing of enlightened keys. Express life and enjoy the process! The geometry of July is young!💜
