CURATED CURIOSITIES

💭 Like SANDS through the hour glass, so are the Days of our Lives…It’s already March! (And yes, I watched the soap opera in the day: it’s run 59 seasons)?! But lately it’s Paul Atreides and the Fremen versus House Harkonnen—dominating a different kind of sandscape. “DUNE Part Two” raked in more than 80 million dollars in its opening weekend.

Science fiction isn’t too far from reality. SAND MAFIAS are illegally mining 200 to 350 billion dollars a year with their trafficking. That’s according to the BBC.

Experts say the world could run out of construction grade sand by 2050. Water is only more widely consumed. “He who controls the spice, controls the universe.” That’s from Dune, but it seems organized crime is well aware!

So what about the resources of your soul? Are you protecting and sharpening them?

It’s usually messy. Just ask the Navy Seal recruits. Admiral William McRaven describes a phenomena known as the SUGAR COOKIE. Instructors find something wrong with a recruit’s uniform, even if it appears perfect.

The recruit is ordered to run fully clothed into the surf zone. Then they must roll around on a beach until the entire body gets coated with SAND. They must stay that way all day. The Admiral talked about students who couldn’t accept that their efforts were in vain. They couldn’t win. That’s the point!

McRaven says: “IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD, GET OVER BEING A SUGAR COOKIE AND KEEP MOVING FORWARD.”

💫 OPPOSING WINDS ACTUALLY CREATE “STAR DUNES”— THE TALLEST IN THE WORLD. THE DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS OF CHALLENGE (WIND DIRECTIONS) WEATHER AS THEY BUILD. THE SAME COULD BE SAID FOR OUR HUMAN OBSTACLES AND HOW WE PERSEVERE OVER TIME. ARE WE GROWING OR SHRINKING? SCIENTISTS JUST DATED A STAR DUNE IN MOROCCO FOR THE FIRST TIME. IT’S 13,000 YEARS OLD! THEY USED A METHOD THAT CALCULATES THE LAST TIME THE GRAINS OF SAND WERE EXPOSED TO DAYLIGHT.

đź’ĄTime is always moving. Maybe you feel like your every step is a bit of a sink in the sand. Maybe your challenge is to randomly move without rhythm like the Fremen in Dune. Maybe you embrace the frustrating feel of the sugar cookie. JUST REMEMBER…if you keep stepping, you won’t get buried. You’ll get stronger! Here’s to a gritty, asymmetrical day of hope! Grateful for the honor of sharing with you đź’–
