Basel, Doodles, & Gold

Happy December! It’s time to add some sweet and spice to our lives 💝

“MY ARTISTIC FLARE” (lol)

So, yeah, I’m likely not showing at Miami’s Art Basel (which is this week). But, never knock an artistic whim. You just never know what it will lead to.

Case in point, 13 year old Joe Whale. His teachers in school always got onto him for doodling. It turns out his freehand artwork, had rizz. He went on to collaborate with Nike! Joe says he constantly doodles —ever since age 3—and he has no plans of stopping.

“You do You!”

Jordan did the artwork for my novel, “Solhubod”. I wanted something rare and authentic, from the hand of a child. The “Solhubod Club” is a club of three ten year olds on an epic hero’s journey in 2049! I’m convinced it would make a great Christmas gift for friends or family. Here’s the LINK:

Back to Basel, there’s a cool vibe going on across the Design District. It’s called “Pearl Jam”, and is a bunch of huge, jewelry themed sculptures adorning the landscape. Artist Nicole Nomsa Mayo says that she was inspired by South Africa’s Ndebele Tribe. Tribal women created the more than a thousand giant pearl earrings hanging from the trees. The tribe is known for their vibrant patterns in design. They are also known for their language. They communicate, largely in part, through “click sounds”!

ART CREATES A COMMUNICATIVE WAVE.”

I’m convinced artistic expression penetrates the here and now and resonates through time. God imparted unique artistic skills into Bezalel and Oholiab in the days of Moses. Exodus 31 reads, “I’ve filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him skill and know-how and expertise in every kind of craft to create designs and work in gold, silver, and bronze; to cut and set gemstones; to carve wood—he’s an all-around craftsman. Not only that, I’ve given him Oholiab….to work with him.” (MSG)

Bezalel was the chief artisan of the tabernacle, in charge of building the Ark of the Covenant. God intended a specific aesthetic and gave the blueprint to Bezalel and Oholiab to carry out.

The dimensions of heavenly patterns weave a cosmic tapestry.

God’s Law (ten commandments) was protected in an enclosed gold chest, with angels adorning the top. Jesus was birthed in an open box of rough wood, with live angels singing from the sky. The Messiah, answer to man’s failure of the Law, intertwined human beauty into a divine masterpiece. He exposed Himself (the real Gold), as a sacrifice for His Creation. The cool thing, is that we are all a part of this ongoing work. We are the imperfect with infinite hope of transformation.

Don’t lock yourself in a box. Your perspective has value. Create. Love. Hope. Risk. Jesus’ ongoing art unleashes the freedom of eternity for you! Happy Season of Giving! Let’s make it count! ❤️
