Fire Words

Dimitry and Babette taught me how to dance to “September”, by Earth, Wind, and Fire, back in the day. Now flames have decimated both of their homes in Pacific Palisades. Life is absurd sometimes. It’s all how you respond to it. The two are still dancing and teaching despite the drama!

Talk about moves! How about those fire pilots maneuvering through smoke, mountains, and violent winds, just feet above the raging flames?! Legends. Watch this!

Surfers are also ripping the flames! A local surfer developed the Community Brigade in Malibu. It trains locals on how to fight fires throughout the year. They’re already credited with saving homes in the blaze.

Meanwhile, the Church is stepping in like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They’re serving tirelessly, despite the fact that many have had to evacuate themselves. This photo is from my friend Brooke at Mosaic.

The physics of fire are intriguing. It’s the HEAT that drives the chain reaction forward. PRESSURE increases heat. So, too, in the fire of human battles. I’m convinced that when we defy our fears and step into the inferno, we drive courage forward.

Still, it’s not enough. I believe we need God. Jesus willingly stepped into the most horrific pain of all time, for us. When we accept that, HIS Spirit lives within us. “Do not quench the Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians) Embrace it. Let the fire of Heaven drive you with passion through the flames of disaster!
