Raccoons, AI, & Soul

CURATED CURIOSITIES

The raccoon most certainly ditched the Olympics opening ceremony (like me, thank goodness!) But, while I spent the evening watching “Mission Impossible”, the creature spent the night raiding my friend Becky’s mango trees (per the usual). Cue Jimmy Buffett’s “Last Mango in Paris.” The masked stalker even spied a bit of chicken with the fruit this time. Little clawed dude, “If it’s too good to be true? Be cautious!” The scrapper crawled right into the cage and the automatic door slammed shut. Becky took him to a wildlife reserve where he sprinted away like an Olympian. True story!

“Adorbs!”

Who knew there was such a thing as an automated raccoon trap? It’s almost a rudimentary precursor to AI. Artificial Intelligence ads are all over the Olympics. Competitors have their own “Athlete GPT” available. AI is being used in sports that require judging. USA swimmers August Lamb and Kate Douglass have even been training with “digital twins.” The replicas spit back the precise form of the swimmers so they can adjust.

I write extensively about digital twins or cyborg replicas in “SolHuBod.” It’s my dystopian fiction novel set in 2049. I based my plot from exhaustive research of real technology.

The adventure and drama of “SolHuBod” is human.

For instance, I have the three ten-year olds write old-school letters to each other after a tense encounter. There’s something personal about human writing. Many seem to agree. For example, there’s been a significant backlash against a Google Ad for its “Gemini” AI. The Olympic ad showed a dad encouraging his daughter to use “Gemini” to compose a letter to her Olympic hero.

“SOLHUBOD” IS OUT IN PAPERBACK AND ON KINDLE. THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO HAS BOUGHT AND READ IT ❤️. LET ME KNOW WHAT RESONATED WITH YOU. IF YOU HAVEN’T CHECKED IT OUT, PLEASE DO. 💌

There’s a true artistry to athleticism. A spirit of greatness resonates with the sacrifice of training. The drive to excel at an Olympic level inspires. Human stories of resilience in sport, connect to life. We feel the drama and the tension of the competitors. We witness competitors step into pinnacle moments. It’s guts, glory, heartbreak, joy, and everything in between. That’s the real beauty of the Games.

Cue “Last Mango in Paris.” The lyrics sing, “Our lives change like the weather, but a legend never dies.” We all have legendary potential. We all have access to faith, hope, and love. Jesus made that possible. He didn’t come as a hologram. He came as a human.

Your life is such an honor. You are loved by the Creator of the universe. You can grow and improve. You can suffer and still rebound with hope. You can turn a moment into a movement. You can help your teammates. May we all be encouraged by the highest and most authentic expressions of these games.

Have an amazing week! 💜
