Rivers, Levitation, & Joints

CURATED CURIOSITIES

In my experience, moving is drama. Highlight number one? That time my father helped move me into a new apartment at Ole Miss. We went budget and he put my dresser in a pick up truck. The lingerie drawer flew out and onto the street! I smell a John Grisham plot twist somewhere 😂

Highlight number 2? That time my buddy Ron and I used the bureau livetruck as transport for my stuff. Seems like you’d have lots of room? But it was more like a 3-D puzzle on the inside with all the editing equipment. You always think to yourself, it’s only down the street. Down the street is a whole mini-series!

Highlight number 3? Last Saturday. Our serve team was moving two barricades to the other side of the church. The fence contraptions were definitely cumbersome and we had 5 people holding ours upright. The weight had us stopping every few minutes. Then, like an F-1 surprise, another team zipped right past us with ease. They held their contraption like a stretcher and moved so efficiently. Duh!

Takeaway? HOW YOU MOVE WITH WEIGHT MATTERS!

“Humility!”

The ancient Egyptians certainly had a knack for moving things. They used river energy from the Nile to help construct the Pyramids! Researchers from UNC Wilmington just discovered a new branch to the Nile that runs right by the structures. The archaic river branch was buried under the desert. The scientists hypothesize that this part of the river transported the heavy block stones that make up the Pyramids. Specialized radar penetrated the sand to detect the 39 mile long, 600 hundred mile wide river branch.

That’s what NASA is trying to do on the moon. They’ve got plans for a railway system that would deliver lunar soil and building materials to astronauts on base. How would it work on the moon? MAGNETIC LEVITATION! The plans have 3 magnetic robots levitating over 3 layers of flexible film track. It’s called FLOAT (flexible levitation on a track), and is part of the agency’s “Innovative, Advanced Concepts Program.”

The moon pulls the tides like muscles in the body pull on joints. We are in constant motion on some level or the other. The question is, what are we moving along with us as we go? Are we maximizing the strength available to us?

My dad would coach me in tennis, “Bend your knees!” It’s amazing how much better the racquet would connect with the ball. I see it as a reflection of the mind-bending surprise of life! Agility changes things up accordingly. So how does one move things well?

  1. With help! It takes two bones, muscles, and ligaments for joints to move our bodies. Same on the larger scale.

  2. With creative strategy. Slow thinking leads to efficient execution.

  3. With the resources in and around us. I’ve come to believe that God has leveraged us for life! The more we tune into our Creator, the more we discover in Creation. And, at the end of the day, the more we move the world around us.

Purpose moves despite difficulty.”

“Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.” Hebrews 12:12-13 (NIV)

I love moving these words in your direction. I hope you move through your week with joy! 😄
