Leaf Words
Fragrance, Antelope, & Stars
Our basil plant looks like a basilica these days! It’s towering with leaves begging to be shared as seasoning.
“Gave some to a friend!”
In South Florida you’re definitely more likely to see these kind of leaves than the traditional autumn foliage. But, if you’re on the hunt, check this out.
There’s quite the vibrant variety.

Leaves are dazzling and practical. “Leaf Republic” is a German company that’s developed plates made entirely of leaves. The pressed leaves in the body of the plates are stitched together with palm leaf fibers. The tableware decomposes in 28 days in compost.

One of these plates could equate to a 7-Eleven slurpee for Africa’s gerenuk antelope. These dudes can go their entire life without drinking a single drop of water. They get their hydration by absorbing moisture from leaves.

The miracle is in the detail. Every leaf has an entire vascular system to transport water and photosynthesize for food. Mercedes tapped into this, in a super-creative Earth Day ad campaign in Mexico.

On a soul level, what kind of light, air, and water flows through our dendrites of thought? What kind of heart do our veins carry collectively?
“Foliage of grace ascends forever.”
The scriptures refer to leaves of healing. “…The leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations.” (Revelation 22:2)
Jesus died with a crown of thorns. But eyewitnesses testify He rose again. “Aleh”, the Hebrew word for leaf, means ascend.
The Psalmist speaks of meditating on God’s Word. “You’re a tree replanted in Eden, bearing fresh fruit every month, Never dropping a leaf, always in blossom.” (Psalms 1:3 MSG)
Connected to life, when winter arrives, even bare branches bear promise.
Have a hope-filled week! 😄
