Penguins, Pineapple, and Preludes

CURATED CURIOSITIES

šŸ’— Itā€™s Thanksgiving week so letā€™s talk happy feet! Literally. Dindim the penguin swims five thousand miles every year to visit the man who saved his life. Joao de Souza found Dindim covered in oil in 2011. The bird was barely alive. De Souza nursed him back to health in his village outside Rio de Janeiro. The penguin has made the thank you journey every year since. He stays for months and then departs for the coast of Argentina to breed. Thereā€™s a magnetism to generosity! Thereā€™s a pull to gratitude! May we all channel our inner Dindim this week.šŸ«¶

šŸ‘ A token of hospitality got its status thanks to a thousands mile journey. Pineapples from the Caribbean that survived the ocean journey to Europe and America in the 16th century were rare. They were also valued! The fruit became a symbol of hospitality during that time. The scarcity and stately appearance held high rank with the elite. A host with a pineapple was thought to have gone above and beyond for their guests!

Is there any sort of hospitality thatā€™s too over the top? The next book Iā€™m getting is ā€œUnreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expectā€ by Will Guidara. I really enjoyed this podcast with the author.

šŸ˜Ž Giving more than expected adds up to momentum. Thereā€™s a certain energy that spirals. Itā€™s like natureā€™s Fibonacci sequence found inside a pineapple. Adding together yields the next greater number in the pattern. Thereā€™s beauty in the spiral. Take a football spinning through the air. Itā€™s like a gyroscope. Itā€™s held on a straight path by force of the air and the energy of the pass. Generosity generates more. It works with an atmosphere. It changes it. Are you passing your utmost forward? Will your hospitality spiral through with some extra good this Thanksgiving?

šŸ˜‚ Enter the SOS, ā€œSounds of Successā€ band in Riviera Beach. Director Antoine Miller gathers donated instruments for the 5-20 year old he teaches to play. His team works solely on a volunteer basis! This resonated with Emmy, Oscar, Grammy, and Tony winning Superstar Jennifer Hudson. She used to practice choir right next to the band in her school. Last Wednesday she surprised SOS on her show! I got to lead her Knock Star segment. Check us out!

šŸ’ž You just never know whoā€™s knocking! Hebrews says, ā€œAnd show hospitality to strangers, for they may be angels from God showing up as your guests.ā€ I hope you have the most unreasonably hospitable Thanksgiving tomorrow. Iā€™m so grateful youā€™re on this journey with me! šŸ™
