CURATED CURIOSITIES

Apple sauce (ok that shouldn’t be too bad), sweet potatoes (ewww, getting cringe), peas (oh nooooo)….At that point it was already loud in South Miami. Our church is studying a collection of talks on spiritual maturity. So, to unseal the jar before a VousCon meeting? We had leaders repping our 4 locations doing shots of BABY FOOD! In competition! Talk about a crazy, amped up crowd. Enthusiasm, check! Team love, check! Fun, 100%. Abner from Miami Gardens crushed it for the win!

But really everyone in the room elevated with energy for the work ahead. Funny how fun can spark creativity!

“The expressions!! (lol)”

Baby food is certainly not ratatouille. But New York City Mayor Eric Adams is whipping up his own mix to battle rats. Manhattan will host the first ever “National Urban Rat Summit” in September. The Mayor says the best way to defeat your enemy is to know them. He wants to eradicate the infestation in the city. The summit will gather rodent experts with innovative ideas. Adams wants the pests packing their bags stat.

It would be so much easier if you could just give the creatures a cease and desist letter. In cursive…

New research has found that handwriting engages the brain exponentially more than typing. It’s an embodied experience that forces different brain systems to work together. Specifically it links motor and visual systems. That link upgrades memory and fires up the synapses associated with learning. Scientists also say it slows us down so we think through concepts as we put pen to paper.

Gymnast Simone Biles certainly slayed the 2024 U.S. Classic, the first of three pre-olympic competitions. Biles, who had to pull out of the Tokyo Olympics due to mental health issues, is back! Can you say Yurchenko Double Pike three times? Well, it’s her signature vault. Biles rocked the round-off into back handspring to the vault, pushing two flips in the air in pike (straight) position. Coach Cecile Landy commented: “She’s way more relaxed and enjoying competing, having fun, and truly I think she really found why she’s doing it.”

FUN TRIGGERS A ZEST INTO CHALLENGES.”

The greatest sports psychologists will tell you that self talk is the differentiator in competition. It’s not training, it’s not talent, it’s the attitude. In a recent talk, writer and mindset coach Jon Gordon spoke about the drive in athletes and teams. He said, many want to succeed to prove themselves. Some are driven by an “I’ll show them” mentality. Gordon says that may work initially. But he’s not convinced it’s sustainable.

Instead, he coaches, remember your love of the game. Be driven by love—for what you bring and how it affects others. What do you love about your job? What do you love about your art? Your sport? Your family and friends? Somehow it takes the pressure off. You relax and the creative mind overrules the reptilian brain. Solutions find you. You’re in the zone again.

FUN is a strategy! Who doesn’t love fun? Laugh your way into the air fryer. Write a reminder in cursive. Try a somersault 😉 Be creative with your food. Think like a rodent 🤣 Love your opportunities and they’ll love you back. 💚
