Magnetism, Cloaks, & Colors

CURATED CURIOSITIES

Last Friday was giving “Baby Einstein” circa 2015. That’s when I walked into 2 year old Baby Jordan’s room. I found her standing, clasping the edge of her crib.

Wide-eyed, she pointed to the ceiling and announced, “AURORA BOREALIS.” I did a double take. She grinned. “Twilight Turtle”, the actual source of the green lights, never knew what hit him. We obviously love words in our household and my early adopter loved echoing her favorite cartoon. 😆

Fast forward eight years later, and you have this past weekend’s geomagnetic storm. I admit that it felt odd aiming my camera to the black sky Friday night. But I’m sure glad I did!

“All the Way Down to Florida!” (my shot of the blue on far right)

Solar storms cause the lights. The colors are visible due to magnetized particles ejected toward Earth from the sun. Florida was too far south to see the atmospheric display with the naked eye. But the camera lens caught it. It unveiled a wonder! That got me wondering. What else can’t we see?

A kickstarter campaign sure caught my attention. It’s generating an invisibility shield! A special lens with some unique engineering makes it possible. The optical cloaking device has 818 backers so far and has been funded 230 thousand dollars to date. Check it out!

“Remember that time in Harry Potter?”

There’s a “Ghost” at the Miami Police Department. But it’s anything but invisible. The Rolls Royce Ghost is on loan to the cop shop to help with recruitment. It fits the 305!

“Roll with It”

Loud visibility can disrupt people. There’s been some backlash against the luxury patroller. Yet unseen disruptions can wield even more power. Back to the geomagnetic storms; infrastructure, power, pipeline currents, and satellites can all suffer. Some studies indicate humans circadian rhythms get thrown off and migraines may be triggered.

Numerous studies have confirmed that the interference in the earth’s magnetic field affects migrating birds. Birds have an internal compass to travel thousands of miles. Specialized cells in birds’ eyes even help them see magnetic fields. Yet studies found that during solar storms, birds tend to drift with the wind and get lost. Earlier this year, a rare Blue Rock Thrush appeared in the U.S. on the Oregon Coast for the first time!

“How did you end up here?”

I’ve certainly ended up off course at times in my life. The reality is that it is easier to drift with the breeze than to fight the crosswinds with intention. Yet I’m convinced that the expected course isn’t necessarily the best course. I’ve found that yielding to the highest steering can lead to beautiful surprises. Perhaps the sweet spot is riding on the wind with purpose.

THE MAGNETISM OF LIFE IS STEERED BY LOVE.”

Sandra Shaw

I believe that’s because Love (God) is intentional. However, the steering is anything but predictable. It’s unseen until you tilt your internal lens toward belief. It carries, but never drifts. It attracts humility as it erupts into mesmerizing colors of hope.

“There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.” Paul is poetic in 2nd Corinthians.

What will this week unveil to you? Let’s expect more together. 💙
