Joy synced like “a tidy bit of futbol” at the 15th annual Jamathon put on by Digital Vibez. I got the chance to dance with some five thousand kids again this year. It’s all thanks to Mr. Wil, who ignited movement to a vision.

Local teens robbed Wil Romelus at gunpoint in 2010, but he changed the narrative. Digital Vibez birthed to offer positive alternatives. The non-profit provides dance, writing, technology, podcasting, music, and film through after-school programs and events like the Jamathon. They’ve served more that 48 thousand children and teens over the years!

One of the many savvy commentators at the World Cup equated steps on the pitch to “Fred Astaire dance moves”. Dance reveals drama. The color analysis came with poetic poignance and lyrical brutality. Take, for example, the vibrance describing a score by Norway’s Erling Haaland: “The might, the muscle, the majesty of the main man!”

The next generation is chomping at the bit. One of my daughter’s friends plays sand soccer. FIFA also runs a Beach Soccer World Cup. Soccer’s shimmying in the sand!

For Navy Seals training in the sand, it’s a grueling survival dance. In “land portage” warriors carry a massive 200 pound rubber boat directly on their heads, all while running across soft sand for up to five miles.
Steps can sink and shake. Yet…
The instability of the surface, strengthens the stability of the core.
It’s the struggle that looks a bit like a dance.

I’m convinced that fluidity evolves from forgiveness. In Mr. Wil’s case, he let go of the crime against him. Instead of reacting with bitterness, he tackled the problem. 15 Jamathons later thousands of kids have new hope.
The commentary in life’s game certainly gets hyperbolic at times! Especially when you look at things from the outside in. Yet no dancer can express without an inner flow. Is yours strengthening? Do you see your life movement as art?
