Mistakes, Mystery, & Hope

CURATED CURIOSITIES

The mistake led me to the note. Otherwise I never would have noticed it. How many times do I just trash my receipts? 🤪 This time I double checked, found an error, but also some personality. The bottom of the receipt read, “Hope your summer is as hot as you are.” The ladies at Pak Mail tell me they love switching up the notes every month to see how their customers react.

Sometimes mistakes lead to new discovery. That’s what happened with the “SPLINKER.” It’s a revolutionary baseball pitch used by Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Paul Skenes. He stumbled upon the offbeat throw when his grip slipped. The mess-up caused the ball to exit a different finger. The weirdness caused an off speed fastball that nose-dived. Skenes has been confuzzling batters with it ever since!

AWARENESS AND INTUITION CAN UNLOCK INSIGHT AND ACTION.”

I think that’s why I love mysteries and espionage. It’s the attention to detail that cracks open the case. It’s also the ability to listen effectively and interpret communication. That’s one of the themes of my Met Mystery Series. I have a few episodes written under the pseudonym Ziva Bristow. Amazon is running a special on “Tejon Trouble.” It’s free for Kindle Readers!

“Enjoy!”

Sometimes the way we communicate is like code. It has to be cracked for breakthrough. For instance, police scanners are nothing but letter/number jargon. My former colleague, Randy White, called himself the“News Marine”. He would take a portable scanner home and listen to it 24/7. I asked Randy why. He said his years in news revealed the constancy of emergencies all around. Randy said if he were ever in the position to respond and save somebody, he wanted to do it. That kind of human passion listens through the muddle, for the benefit of life!

There’s a unique frequency to each of our souls. The way we communicate and act is an extension of that expression. Iconic thought leader Erwin McManus has a new book out: “The Seven Frequencies of Communication, The Hidden Language of Human Connection.” I’ve studied his concept and it’s phenomenal. Here’s a link:

“What’s Your Freqency?”

One of my favorite McManus quotes is, “Your greatest moment of life is your greatest moment of sacrifice.” Firefighter Corey Comperatore embodied that during the Trump assassination attempt. Comperatore commanded his family to get down as shots rang out. He then dove over his wife and two girls as a human shield. The bullets claimed his life. Comperatore’s actions and words united with the eternal opportunity of the moment.

I’m convinced there’s love embedded in every frequency. Selflessness stills the noise with presence. Love intentionally pays attention. Love responds no matter the circumstance. The universe is awash in sound and signal.

Whether it be a funny note on a receipt, a stumbling splinker, or a nuance in human interaction, connections await. Are we aware? I believe God is the voice that pulls out our best. There’s an omnipresence of good that resonates through chaos with hope.

You encourage me. You make a difference to those around you. You have something to say in a way that nobody else can. May we all carry this well this week! Thank you đź’ś
